Every morning, the world clamors for our attention. As we begin our “busy-ness,” F.B. Meyer reminds us, “The greatest tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer, but unoffered prayer.” No one knew this truth as well as our Savior did. He side-stepped every distraction that creeps into our morning schedule and quietly retreated into the seclusion of a spiritual retreat with His Father. He could then face the demands of an exhausting ministry. Billy Graham said, “To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees.” So, in the words of St. Augustine, let us “pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.” Can we commit to a life dedicated to spending exclusive time in the presence of God every morning so every day would bring us fresh challenges to reach out to a hurting world with His healing balm? Dear God, help me get on my knees each morning in seclusion with you, so you can anoint me for the day to be your mouthpiece in bringing the word of hope to the needy and the hopeless.
