Mark’s Gospel begins by declaring the book as “the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” Just as John the Baptist was sent as a messenger ahead of Jesus, so also are we sent to go into the world and make disciples. The message of the Gospel to repent, turn away from sins, and believe in Jesus for salvation is relevant to my country and community. My beloved country is on a downward trajectory – the economy is failing, unemployment is on the rise, the government is almost dysfunctional, and corruption and crime are increasing. Although the future of my country looks dark and bleak, I am convinced I am sent as a messenger of Jesus to be an agent of change. As I share the Gospel message, transformation will take place, and the light of Jesus will shine brightly once again. Where the light of Jesus Christ shines, Gospel poverty ends.
