As I write this from my home in Sri Lanka, many people have taken to the streets to bring an end to an era of oppression. Their hope is the dawn of a new era, with justice, freedom, and better governance for all Sri Lankans. Youth have been the forerunners of this massive public protest, joined by thousands of people, day and night. John the Baptist was the forerunner for Jesus, calling people to repentance. The break of a new dawn appeared with his voice crying out in the wilderness. John was preparing the way for Christ. John came to the world to fulfill an assignment of God. It reminds us that we are not here by accident – we all carry within us God-ordained assignments. May you be aware of that assignment, and if you are not, then today is a good opportunity to speak to God about the Divine purpose of your life!

I experienced Haggai at a time when I thought sharing the Gospel was a special assignment performed by specific individuals. I realized the Great Commission is part of every Christian’s life, and we are all called to end Gospel poverty.
