Four blind men described an elephant, based on the part of the animal they touched: the tail, the leg, the head, and the trunk. They had fractional knowledge of the whole animal. In Matt. 16:13, Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” In verse 14, they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” None of these answers described Him correctly. Then, He asked His disciples in verse 15, “But who do you say that I am?” And in the next verse, Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” To effectively describe Jesus Christ requires personal, experiential, and revelatory knowledge.
