Romans 8:28 tells us God works all things for the good of those who believe and love Him — even the things which, in our human logic, we perceive as being sour, such as sickness, poverty, or being mistreated. People who believe this with their whole hearts are “pure in heart.” They suffer on behalf of Christ because they know the joy of knowing Him surpasses any comfort this world can offer. One day, perhaps while we are living on Earth, or in eternity, God will redeem these trying experiences, and we will be able to see beauty from ashes. This concept reminds me of the paradox of childbirth. When a woman carries and delivers her first baby, she experiences a lot of pain. Those of us who have never carried a child wonder why she would want to get pregnant again! It’s the joy! The joy she receives when she holds her baby is so powerful, she understands there is purpose in the pain.
