Miracles have always attracted people. Even Herod was no different (Luke 23:8). Satan launches counterfeit christs and prophets because it makes his goal to deceive easier. Jesus warned the Church to beware of deception. Deception has always been the greatest weapon of the enemy — be it beguiling Eve (Gen. 3:13), masquerading as an angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14), performing false signs and wonders (2 Thess. 2:9) — the list is endless. The Church must follow this simple rule: “If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams” (Deut. 13:1-3). Friends, the safest place for us to be in is the Word of God. His Word is our refuge and our help.
