From the beginning of time, God wanted us to be pure, or set apart. He desires for us to be free from that which He knew would contaminate our spirit, soul, and body – the things that would prevent us from enjoying the benefits of being in right standing with Him. The Bible gives us many examples of young and old men who chose to abide by God’s Word and men who chose deliberately not to do so, explicitly describing the outcome of such decisions. On one side, we may notice a particular strength in those who approach life and its difficulties based on obedience to the Word of God, with an outcome of spiritual growth and maturity, as well as a likeness to Christ. On the other side, those who disregarded His word experienced despair, sadness, and loss. Psalm 119 leaves no doubt – we ought to walk in the Word of God, which is a lamp to our feet and light to our path. Although there is no condemnation for our past decisions, we can surely decide the path from here on out. Father, help us choose to live according to your Word, for this is the only way to keep us pure as we walk in the path set before us.
