At any major event when the main speaker says the punchline, the crowd always goes wild, fist-pumping into the air as a sign of victory. Crowds roar at speeches sending soldiers into war. At that moment, we are ready for anything. When Jesus was seated on the donkey, the crowd was excited, for the Holy Spirit had revealed the true Messiah. “Hosanna to the Son of David! Hosanna to the King of Kings!” It must have been so loud, spreading across the city until Jesus entered into Jerusalem. Sadly, some of the same people who cried, “Hosanna!” called for Jesus’ death just a few days later. Similarly, we await the second coming of Christ. Christ will return, and his children will cry, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” The sound will shake the universe, and evil spirits will tremble. The unrepentant will gnash their teeth. Let us bring friends and relatives with us to sing Hosanna together before that day of Jesus’ second coming. Gospel poverty is real — who will you bring with you to welcome Jesus at His second coming?
