In 2015, Hurricane Patricia, one of the strongest storms on record worldwide, threatened Mexico. It started as a strong cyclone and strengthened as it approached. The population needed to evacuate quickly, and we prayed for this to be possible. There was, however, a 10-year-old child who prayed for the hurricane to stop. Miraculously, Patricia lost strength when it reached the beach. How do we pray for “lost causes?” Do we have faith? Mark 9 tells us about a desperate father. He had tried to help his son, but nothing worked. He brings him to the apostles, and still nothing. He is hopeless and frustrated. Then he finds Jesus. When Jesus tells him everything is possible for him who believes, the father faces a problem. He wants to believe, but he just doesn’t. He immediately answers, “I believe!” but sincerely adds, “Help me with my unbelief.” If you have doubts when praying, be honest and recognize your lack of faith. Ask our omnipotent God to help your unbelief and strengthen your faith.
