“. . . not to be served but to serve.” These words remind me of the motto of Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore, which is the result of Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder’s obedience to God’s calling. Having encountered the death of three young women during childbirth in a remote village in the 19th century, she decided to study medicine in America and return to serve the women of India. What started as a small hospital in 1900s, is now a distinctive institution, seeking to transform healthcare and play its role as a living witness in the healing ministry of Christ. In Dr. Scudder’s words, “Our Master has called each one to serve Him, and that is why we came to India. We came to serve, and in serving Him, to serve India.” Let us strive to make this our goal, too!

Haggai has made me more responsive to God’s calling in my life. It has transformed my profession into my passion and provided me with an opportunity to be part of the healing ministry of Christ.
