The phrase “let your light shine” is unconditional. In my country, Malawi, many rural girls drop out of school because of early marriages and teenage pregnancies. Heeding God’s call, we opened a mission school, and Matt. 5:16 is the verse that sums up our purpose. We harmoniously served several rural villages for over five years, until one day, some villagers mobilized and demanded money from us. They stopped the girls from attending classes. It was grievous considering the impact our ministry made in their communities. Thankfully, in January 2022, the matter was resolved through the courts. Regrettably, they failed to bring the girls back to school. The Lord reminded us of our purpose verse, Matt. 5:16. We reached out, and praise the Lord, our girls are back in school! Today’s verse calls us to shine God’s light at all times, even in the face of adversity. We especially shine as we forgive those who have trespassed against us. (Lk. 11:4)
