In this parable, a man heard the Word of God and received it with joy, but could not hold on for long. As persecution and affliction arose, he immediately fell away. When you meet Jesus, you will become different from your friends and colleagues. I remember people calling me Father John or Jesus Freak soon after I received Jesus into my life. And if your roots are not deep enough (if you are not growing in God and in the Word), chances are, when difficulties come, you will want to go back to where you came from rather than leaning on Jesus and His Word. Please note that affliction and persecution arose because of his belief in Jesus — that is a tough one. I am reminded of the words of the famous hymn, “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back!” What a testimony of the roots running deep!

I am now serving through the Virtual Haggai Leader Experience as a program coordinator, and seeing the power of how technology can help further the Gospel of Jesus like never before is truly amazing!
