As Jesus began the Olivet Discourse, He would have been conscious of the location, the Mount of His Ascension, on the brink of His crucifixion, the event which would herald the beginning of the end. In Matt. 24:3, the disciples specifically ask about the signs of His return and of the end of the world. Here, He says the focus should not be on when the end will come, but on proclaiming the Gospel to every nation. He is sending them out, redirecting their attention to the work at hand. He asks them to trust the Father with the timing. Let us do an excellent work for the Master while we have time. Let’s preach, teach, and proclaim using every means available to us — our redemption draws near!
