Jesus Christ said, “I came to fulfill the law” (Matt. 5:17). The law required that the one who sins would have to die (Ezk. 18:20), but the law was designed to bring rebellious, sinful people like us to the understanding that we need a Savior. And so, Christ, while we were yet sinners, died for us (Rom. 5:8), canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands (Col. 2:14). For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes (Rom. 10:4). Praise be to our God, not even an iota has been missed, in words or execution, and that’s why we have the privilege of being called greatly blessed, highly favored — imperfect, yet forgiven children of God. But that’s not it. We know that one day the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption (Rom. 8:21). That day is soon approaching. Are we ready? Are we redeeming our time? Do we carry each other’s burdens, as the Scripture says, “in this way, you will accomplish the law of Christ (Gal. 6:2)?”
