Let not our hearts be troubled. Peace is our inheritance from Jesus. Growing up, I thought peace was about being in a serene and quiet place. I even thought peace was the absence of problems. I remember whenever I faced problems and felt anxious, I went to the spa or on a getaway trip in an attempt to relieve my panic and stress. Somehow, I believed there was a price I had to pay in order to have peace. Yet, the so-called “peace” I experienced was fleeting and temporary. Peace is not the absence of problems or difficulties. It is not even the end or absence of pain. Peace is the assurance that we are not alone in facing the many challenges of life. In fact, true peace allows us to thrive and even have joy in the midst of our troubles and distress. In the face of bad news or alarming medical reports, and even when we become victims of injustice in this chaotic world, we are at peace when we let Jesus comfort and strengthen us. We can depend on Him and believe He is a problem solver and a miracle worker. Peace does not have a price tag. Peace is intimacy with Jesus. Abide in His presence and be filled with His peace that surpasses all understanding. This is our inheritance.
