“Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign,” said Isaiah to king Ahaz after he refused to ask the Lord for a sign that would confirm to him the Lord would not allow Judah to be defeated. Sometimes, we must deal with issues that are so challenging that, if we are honest with ourselves, we are afraid to trust the Lord to lead us through the situation. As I’m writing this devotion, I’m afraid to trust the Lord to restore my marriage because of everything we’ve gone been through. But the same sign the Lord gave to Ahaz, He gives to me and to you: “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” Immanuel means “God with us.” It’s like I’m hearing the Lord whispering in my ear: “Querlyn, I am with you. I will guide you through this, and I will strengthen you. Fear not, my child.” Can you also hear the Lord whispering “Immanuel” to you? No matter what you are facing, the Lord is with you to guide you, to help you, to comfort you, and to strengthen you. Immanuel: God with us!
