John 19:26 refers to the presence of Mary, the mother of Jesus, at the crucifixion. While hanging on the cross, Jesus saw His mother and His beloved disciple standing nearby. He tenderly spoke to His mom and asked the disciple to care for her after He was gone. John 19:27 shares that the disciple did take her into his own home. The disciple here is John, the author of the Gospel of John, and the only male disciple who was at the foot of the cross as Jesus was dying. The other disciples were too afraid to be near the cross to be identified by the Roman soldiers. Great responsibility often requires great risk. God entrusts responsibility to those, who like John, are willing to go with Him till the end. John loved Jesus deeply, showed up, and was given the gift of caring for Mary as a result. What can we risk for God? Are we holding back out of fear? Trust God to care for you, and take the risk!
