To “abide” means to stay where you are. The Christian has been placed in Christ. That is his position. In his daily walk, he should stay in intimate fellowship with the Lord. We abide in Christ by reading and obeying His Word, spending time in prayer, having fellowship with His people, worshiping Him, and serving Him. As we thus maintain constant contact with Him, we are conscious of His presence in us that supplies us with spiritual strength and resources. A lot of Christians are trying to give up their God-given ministries and are emigrating from Sri Lanka due to the economic crisis that is engulfing my nation. My advice to them is to stay and serve the Lord because that is one aspect of abiding in the Lord. A branch is lifeless unless it remains attached to the vine. The living sap from the stock flowing into it enables it to produce grapes.
