During the last hours of His mission on Earth, our Lord Jesus Christ gave this noble commandment. The Greek word used for love here is agape, which means unconditional love, without any expectations or reservations. This type of love is the way God the Father loves human beings. And here, Jesus Christ teaches us that our love for our neighbor should be like His love for us. His love is supreme and sacrificial. His love never ends and endures forever. His love is a forgiving one, not a forsaking one. A fire recently broke out in a local park. After the fire was put out, firemen cleared debris and found a hen dead because of the intensity of the heat. When they picked up the hen, six chicks emerged alive from under her body. God’s love is like this — a life-giving love — and we are expected to lay down our lives in love for humanity.
