I worked as a state auditor in the Philippines for the most complicated and biggest spender in infrastructure projects and for a tax revenue generating agency that funded the government. People perceived these agencies to be corrupt. I remember how scared I was about these assignments. To maintain my integrity, I never entertained suppliers, contractors, or importers in my office. Nor did I accept gifts or money from them. I never requested favors in order to maintain my independence in the audit. I have experienced being bribed with money, but declined, not even touching the envelope because my fingerprint may be left on it. There were many times luxurious bags were gifted, but I knew that to accept gifts would affect my audit decision making. I will not be afraid to do right, even though many thousands of people have set themselves against me all around. Yet amidst this environment, God used me to start a Bible study in my workplace.
