One of the painful ironies of human existence relates to the impermanence of all the things we desire in life, which are represented here by the sparkling — and fleeting — beauty of grass and flowers. We pursue wealth, relationships, intellectuality, wisdom, and even the buoyancy and exuberance of youth, only to realize they cannot be ours for long. Thus, we join the author of the book of Ecclesiastes in lamenting that everything is vanity. Life viewed from that perspective becomes meaningless and not worth living. However, this is just one side of the story. The Word of God gives meaning to all we live for because it is everlasting. John in his Gospel reveals that the Word of God is Jesus. In other words, the grass withers, the flower fades but JESUS CHRIST will stand forever! That marks the end of the hopelessness and despair chronicled in the book of Ecclesiastes. Through His death on the cross, Jesus defeated death and gave us eternal life. This verse should remind us to cease investing in grass and flowers and devote our lives to Jesus, the Word of God.

The Haggai Leader Experience opened my eyes to the fact that all things are possible with God. For a long time God has showed me the vision of setting up the Gospel Enterprise ministry. However, I was skeptical about how such a vision would work, especially since we were using college students, who I have always considered hard to manage. While at the Haggai headquarters, God confirmed in a number of ways that this ministry would easily be implemented and that it would survive for many years. With that confidence, as I traveled back home from Hawaii, I knew what I was going to do. Again, through meeting other Christians from across the world who demonstrated great passion about spreading Christ and His salvation, I was really inspired and straight away knew that this is what our ministry would be all about. The time we were at Haggai was the greatest gift that I would ever get in this life. To God be the glory!
