My brothers and sisters, have you ever wondered why we often feel abandoned by God? In general, we feel abandoned when we are faced with a problem or a situation we cannot solve, despite our intelligence and our relationships. Why does He not answer our prayers? Sin floods the world with tragedy, injustice, and trauma. Why does God not rescue us from every trial? No one really knows the answer to that question, but one theory is that God desires our dependence. When we are struggling, we cry out to Him, just like David in this Psalm. David is known as a man after God’s own heart — we can learn from him that God is not angry when we cry out with our questions. He truly desires to hear us, and He is working in ways we may not understand today, but will ultimately fulfill His perfect plan for us and the world. He has not abandoned us. In the meantime, His presence sustains us. Ps. 34:17 says, “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” Ps. 34:18 tells us, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Cry out to God! He wants to give you His presence.
