As a child, one of the few passages of Scripture I memorized was Matthew 7:7-11. My mother used to read me this passage to encourage me that I have a heavenly Father who loves to listen, who is ready to respond, and who is always willing to help. He is the Father of the fatherless. The most encouraging word in this verse is “everyone.” God loves and listens to everyone, irrespective of who we are. The all-encompassing, everlasting love of God has lured me away from fear, doubt, limitations, and feelings of unworthiness. The repeated invitation to “ask,” “seek,” and “knock” is a big motivation for prayer. The inevitable outcome, “receives,” “finds,” and “will be opened” is a further encouragement to pray all the more. This verse reassures us that God, who gave His only Son, Jesus, will give us whatever we ask for according to His will.
