“Delight” is a special word used when we take pleasure in something. We Indians delight in sports, especially cricket, and in sweets during various festivals. There are also people who delight in accomplishments, but that seems to always require comparison to others: some delight in putting down others and climbing up the ladder, while others delight in receiving praise. But this verse says to “delight in the Lord.” Many times, children of God tend to delight in worldly pleasures, and they miss the promise which follows. “He will meet the desires of your heart.” God knows our desires, but He wants us to align them to His will. This can happen only when we learn to enjoy and take pleasure in Him and His statutes. Delighting in the Lord will help us focus on Him and realize His goodness and sweetness. We need to learn to delight in Him, even in situations where it may seem illogical. When we believe God wants to meet the desires of our hearts, it creates a cycle of readiness that inspires us to continue to delight in Him.
