Just like other countries, the Philippines has suffered from COVID-19 for several years, and we are still slowly recovering. In 2022, we withstood typhoons hitting several parts of the country, ministers dying of different causes, churches and houses of members washed away by floods, and more. Filipinos near and far immediately went out of their way to share whatever they could to help alleviate suffering. Brethren and volunteers instantly gathered together and divided the tasks to hasten the collection, packing, and delivery of relief goods, food supplies, and other basic needs of the affected areas. In today’s passage, Matthew is reminding us how Jesus called His disciples, and without hesitation, they immediately left what they were doing and followed Him. Today, we are also being challenged amidst the crisis of the times to respond in the ways our faith and conviction are prompting us. Are we ready to leave our nets and follow Jesus?
